i have a great idea.  you guys need to start an old mans  sniper server with a scope that can use a higher magnification.  i am having a really hard time seeing anyone on the current longrange maps with the mag set as is.  i know that this probably is because of age, but i really cannot see the little micro dots that are suppose to be heads at 500 - 700 yards.  i am sorry if i am the only one that feels this way, but its not fun when you cannot see anything to shoot when its long distance.  i lucked out last night and just shot at what looked like a sand pebble and hit someone. lol!!!  funny but true.

thanks,
your old friend croker

yes i know, i already have my made for pc glasses on and its still near impossible to see beyond about 2-300 yards with any degree of accuracy.  not sure if even a magnifying screen would make any difference for these old sad eyes that used to see well in the dark.  lol!!!.

at 42 with a stigmatisum in 1 eye i am in a similar boat, 22 wide screen and i am 8 to 10 inches away from it.
Zoom is a touchey subject it seems, the execs want to stay away from the Fragsniper style server, but if
new people cant see they wont stay,

Maybe for 1 week they can use the full zoom and let players decide. If the server pupolates and players chat and have fun
maybe -- just maybe it will stay.

I know from Snipin on the Icsl server I usually run at about 6x and zoom right in for the kill, unless i think im about to get smoked, then i shoot at 6x.

We can revisit the subject of zoom at our next Executive meeting and discuss this. The main reason for the zoom limit is to make the sniper earn the kill. It should feel rewarding to make a kill by searching and finding your target. If the target is basically thrown in your face by larger zoom, there is no skill in searching for your targets - they are basically put in your scope by default because the image is so big. That is just not sniping in my opinion. I am totally against the large zoom due to this reason.

Now that is not to say that the zoom cannot be increased a click or 2 but {LSB} will not ever go to an unlimited or very large zoom. This xxxxx a more frag style of play that we are opposed to. Sniping should be just that - sniping, which means using your scope to SEARCH for targets and then take them out. Having the targets so large that we can see their nose hairs from 700 yards is not at all what we at {LSB} are in favor of.

We will discuss this issue further in our next meeting, but rest assured, that a very large or unlimited zoom will not be implemented on our servers. There should be some level of skill used to find your targets.

This post is not intended to offend anyone at all. This has just been a {LSB} staple since our inception. Years ago, we learned the proper way to snipe from some of the best and that tradition will continue at {LSB}.

LOL Croker you scared me for a minute there talking about an old man place. Moving on, my eyes, at 62, sure aren't what they used to be but I have always enjoyed the challenge here at LSB. You also need to remember if you can see easily so can the guy on the other end. Keep your head down and always check your background Smile

audie (russ) i was not ever saying that you needed to have full mag.  i was saying that looking through the scope i should not have to see someones head the size of a small grain of sand at 700 yards.  that is not realistic in real sniping anywhere.  what i was talking about is something more like the scope mags that are real.  at 700 yards you should be able to see someones head and it should at least look like a head not a grain of sand.  you should be able to see the rifle that the other sniper is shooting.

for you younger snipers that may all be well, but we of the older generation have a very difficult time sniping when you really cannot see anything through the scope except every once in a while a glimps of what might be a sniper or just a flaw in the map.

thanks,
croker

I think after playing with a scope so powerful you can see up a gnats a** our scope is just right for our skill level.
I vote to cut it down a bit.

Your request was discussed and modifications have been made to our zoom code.

Although the zoom flood gates have not been opened and zoom is still dependent on map size, I am sure you will enjoy the changes we made without taking away the uniqueness of playing on a {LSB} server.

Thanks for the feedback and as always:

Enjoy Snipers!
